The first session of the 43rd Manitoba legislature is expected to open at approximately 1:30 p.m. tomorrow with the reading of the speech from the throne by Lt.-Gov. Anita R. Neville.
The lieutenant-governor will depart Government House at 1 p.m. After her arrival at the Legislative Building, Neville will receive full military honours in the rotunda outside the chamber. The lieutenant-governor will inspect a 20-person Quarter Guard comprising of Canadian Armed Forces personnel from 17 Wing Winnipeg. The Royal Canadian Air Force Band will provide the musical pageantry for the ceremony.
As invited guests enter the Legislative Building, they will be greeted by fiddlers Morgan Grace and Kieth Ginther on the Grand Staircase.
Following the inspection of the guard and the playing of the vice-regal salute, the official party will proceed to the lieutenant-governor’s reception room before entering the legislative chamber for the reading of the speech from the throne. As part of this year’s ceremonies, Whitehorse Drum Group will start and finish the ceremonies inside the legislative chamber.
The speech will outline the government’s main priorities for the upcoming legislative session, which Wab Kinew has previously said will concentrate primarily on revamping health-care, enhancing affordability, and eradicating chronic homelessness.
