A downtown Brandon eyesore, the vacant former Esso gas station at 402 Rosser Avenue, is being demolished.
A report in today’s Brandon Sun said “crews dismantled the gas pumps and the canopy above them at the derelict Esso gas station late Tuesday afternoon, and Mayor Jeff Fawcett told the Sun that the rest of the demolition is scheduled to start next Monday.”
The report also said the property’s owner did not meet a deadline to clean-up the site and the city took over. It plans to add the cost to the owner’s property tax bill, which is already in arrears.
Ryan Nickel, Brandon’s director of planning and buildings told the Sun, “with the owners still in arrears for their property taxes, it is likely that the property will eventually be listed once again for tax sale.”
The demolition is expected to be completed by the end of next week.
