Brandon city council is to receive a staff report tonight about having developers pay for a portion of the southwest wastewater project. The report says the overall cost of the project, which includes two lift stations with gravity and force mains, has jumped from $25-million to $31-million dollars, and they’re requesting developers pay for the gravity mains.
Gravity mains move wastewater using gravity – while force mains move water under pressure. The city has already approved borrowing $18-million for the project, and has secured another $3.9-million from the province.
Also on the schedule – a motion from councillor Shawn Berry to have a new traffic calming measure, the chicanes, removed from Durum Drive, a request that councillors approve continued funding for a security guard at the downtown library, and a report on winter activities planned at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.
Councillors will also receive another motion to waive fees related to the demolition of the YWCA’s Meredith Place transitional housing facility, an update on the Community Wellness Collaborative, and presentations from Habitat for Humanity and the Wheat City Curling Classic.
