A report is expected today on possible safety improvements to the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and Highway 5 near Carberry.
Last June 15th, a minibus carrying seniors to a casino collided with a semi-trailer killing 17 people.
Police said dashcam footage showed the bus was southbound on Highway 5 and crossing Highway 1 when it drove into the path of the eastbound truck, which had the right of way.
Shortly after the crash, the government had promised it would look into a range of possible upgrades to the intersection.
Carberry’s mayor would eventually like to see an overpass, but says a more immediate measure would be reducing the 100-kilometre-an-hour speed limit.
