RCMP say on January 24, 2024, Michael Hanska, 29, was charged with Second Degree Murder in relation to the homicide of a 40-year-old male that occurred on January 23, in Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation. He was remanded into custody.

On January 23, 2024, at approximately 8:45 pm, Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a report of an injured male at a residence located in Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the 40-year-old male, from Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, who was pronounced deceased on scene.
The matter is being investigated as a homicide.
RCMP Major Crime Services, along with MFNPS, continue to investigate.
