At Oak Hammock Marsh this morning (Feb 2), the province’s weather forecasting groundhog, Manitoba Merv, predicted six more weeks of winter.
The centre is undergoing renovations, and Merv reportedly popped out wearing a construction vest, tool belt and hard hat. He was so shocked to see his shadow, he dropped the screwdriver he was holding.
Jacques Bourgeois, with the Wetland Discovery Centre, said “He is all sad that we have six more weeks of winter in Manitoba. Very sorry Manitobans. Don’t put the shovels away just yet.”
And Merv knows what’s up…he’s been giving us these predictions for more than three decades.
The first Canadian weather rodent to give us a prognostication this morning was Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam – who did not see her shadow, so they’ll get an early spring.
