-Connor Hellebuyck made 17 saves for his 3rd shutout of the season, and 35th of his career, as the Winnipeg Jets beat the San Jose Sharks 1-0. Morgan Barron scored the lone goal for Winnipeg. Up next, the Jets are in Vancouver against the Canucks on Saturday.
-Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly will appeal a five-game suspension handed down by the NHL on Tuesday. He received the punishment for cross-checking Ottawa’s Ridly Greig after Greig fired a slapshot into an empty net in the dying seconds of Ottawa’s 5-3 win last Saturday. The NHL said the sole purpose of the check was for ‘retribution’.
-The Brandon Wheat Kings visit the Moose Jaw Warriors tonight. This is their 7th meeting this season – they’ve split the first six meetings right down the middle. Brandon is currently 10 points back of the second place Warriors in the Eastern Conference.
-In the Professional Women’s Hockey League – Natalie Spooner had a hattrick as Toronto beat Boston 5-3. Brandon’s Kristen Campbell made 32 saves and drew an assist on Spooner’s first goal of the night. In other action – Minnesota got by Ottawa 2-1.
-and Brandon Curling Club has a variety of events planned on February 24th for Curling Day in Canada. All you need is a clean pair of indoor running shoes – brooms, sticks and sliders are provided. You can test your skills and draw to the button, try doubles curling or two-person stick curling. It starts at 10:00 am.
