It’s a forecast for early spring, not for this late in May. Environment Canada is calling for heavy rain mixed with snow for Brandon today, rainfall amounts between 40 and 50 mm, and a temperature steady near plus 2. At last report, Brandon has received 13 mm of rain, and there were some flurries mixed in as well.
Across the region, areas near the international border have received 17 mm of rain between midnight and 5:00 am on Friday. The Morden-Winkler area was hit with 15 mm, while surrounding communities got 10 to 15 mms.
A Rainfall Warning remains in effect for a number of southern Manitoba communities, including Brandon, Carberry, Neepawa, Treherne, Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie and Steinbach as a low-pressure system moves north from the Dakotas.
Most of the rain is expected to fall today, and will taper off on Friday night before ending by midday on Saturday.
Environment Canada also notes that winds of up 60 km/h, as well as localized flooding are possible.
