The Brandon University Bobcats got back in the Canada West swing of things with an all-Saskatchewan Huskies weekend to start the second-half.
The women’s basketball team is 3-9, but still remain a game back of the final playoff spot in the Pioneer Division after losing both contests against the sixth-ranked Huskies at the Healthy Living Centre.
"It’s good to play against one of the better teams in the conference. It gives everybody a sense of where we’re at. It’s humbling and gives you a little bit more fuel to keep focused in practices and how we prepare," said BU women’s coach Novell Thomas.
The men’s basketball team is tied for last-place in the Pioneer Division at 1-11 after two losses against the tenth-ranked Huskies.
"Nobody is pointing a finger. Guys are taking ownership and guys are going to show up Monday and try to get a little bit better each week at a time," said coach Gil Cheung. "It’s tough. I never anticipated being 1-11 and they didn’t either, but it doesn’t stop our job and what we try and do every week.
Meanwhile, the ninth-ranked BU women’s volleyball team took both matches against the Huskies and are tied for fourth-place in the conference at 10-6, while the third-ranked BU men’s team shares second at 12-4 after a split in Saskatoon.
The volleyball teams are home to the UBC Thunderbirds this coming weekend, while the basketball teams are on the road against the T-Birds in Vancouver.
