-The Brandon Wheat Kings play their first pre-season game tonight when they host the Saskatoon Blades. Face-off is at 7:00 pm at Westoba Place. In their 8 meetings last season, the Blades beat Brandon 5-games-to-3.
-The Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a sold-out Banjo Bowl game on Saturday. The official tailgate for the game will start at 11 a.m. and gates will be opening early at 12:30 p.m. The game gets underway at 2:00 pm. The Blue Bombers are currently tied with the BC Lions for first place in the CFL West.
-In the first regular-season NFL game last night – the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-20.
-The Brandon University men’s and women’s soccer teams are in action Saturday afternoon at the Healthy Living Centre against Providence. The men play at 1:00 pm – the women at 3:15 pm.
-and Canada picked up three medals on Day 8 of the Paralympic Games in Paris. Swimmer Aurelie Rivard captured gold in the 400m freestyle S10 – while Tess Routliffe earned bronze in the 100m breaststroke SB7. Wheelchair racer Brent Lakatos won gold in the T53 800 metres. Canada’s men’s wheelchair basketball team lost 80-43 to the U-S in the semifinals and will meet Germany in the bronze medal game, and Canada will face Brazil in the bronze medal game in women’s sitting volleyball after dropping a 3-0 decision to China in the semifinals. Canada’s medal count is at 20 including six gold, six silver and eight bronze.
