The Manitoba government announced today that Grand Chief Cathy Merrick will lie in state this Wednesday, Sept. 11. Members of the public are invited to pay their respects at the Manitoba Legislative Building between noon and 5 p.m. Photography will be prohibited in the ceremonial room where the lying in state will take place.
A book of condolences will be placed at the base of the Grand Staircase of the Manitoba Legislative Building.
Members of the public are invited to begin signing the book starting tomorrow at noon until 8 p.m. Visitors will be able to sign the book between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. for the rest of the week. After the public has had a chance to sign, the book will be gifted to the family.
The flags at the Manitoba Legislative Building will stay lowered to half-mast until the funeral in Cross Lake on Saturday.
