-The Winnipeg Jets announced their 26-player roster that will attend the 2024 Young Stars Classic in Penticton, BC September 13th-16th. The group includes a trio of Winnipeg’s recent first round draft picks – Chaz Lucius, Brad Lambert and Colby Barlow, along with newly acquired 2023 first-round pick Brayden Yager. The Jets play the Calgary Flames on Friday, the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday and the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.
-The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have lost backup quarterback Chris Streveler for the rest of the season. He suffered damage to three of the four major ligaments in his knee after a low hit from Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive end Miles Brown late in the third quarter of the Banjo Bowl last Saturday. Streveler completed 31-of-52 pass attempts for 343 yards, one touchdown, and one interception this season. He also carried the ball 87 times for 272 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Bombers (7-6) have the week 15 bye. Winnipeg will meet the Elks in Edmonton on Saturday, September 21st.
-The Brandon University Bobcats men’s soccer team and the Assiniboine College Cougars played to a scoreless draw last night. Tonight, the women’s teams will meet at Healthy Living Centre field.
-Canada and Mexico played to a scoreless draw yesterday in a men’s friendly soccer game in Arlington, Texas. Canada plays next in Toronto against Panama in October.
