Cloudy, rainy skies might give way to something more serious this evening in the Brandon area, according to Environment Canada. They’ve placed Brandon and area under a severe thunderstorm watch.
According to their watch, conditions are just right for severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. This could mean rainfall in excess of 50 millimeters, nickel-sized hail, and winds up to or exceeding 90 kilometers per hour.
Environment Canada advised people to watch the skies and get indoors at the first sign of lightning or hail. Securing loose items outside your home is also advised, as the heavy winds could blow them around forcefully.
They also said they expect the conditions for any severe storm weather to break down around midnight tonight, whereupon the risk of a severe thunderstorm will decrease significantly.
