A plan to convert Brandon’s McKenzie Seeds building downtown into a vertical farm has been scrapped – and the owners are now thinking studio apartments. Brandon Fresh Farms, owners of the building, told the Brandon Sun they had too much difficulty securing financing for the farm idea. The new plan is to create 150 studio apartments for artists, entrepreneurs and small-business owners.

Unfortunately, the zebra mussel situation at Clear Lake in Riding Mountain Park is not improving – the invasive mussels have been found attached to docks. Park staff is now in the process of removing docks and other infrastructure from the lake.

Centra Gas is looking for a rate hike for the first time since 2018. They’ve applied for a 4.5% increase starting on November 1st – which could translate to around $2.00 more a month for the average customer. Centra says it needs more money to cover costs.

A 48-year-old Brandon man is dead after a head-on collision between his motorcycle and an SUV on Tuesday. The crash happened on Highway 250 about 10-kilometres north of Highway 1. RCMP say the driver of the SUV,
a 37-year-old woman from Souris, crossed the centre line and hit the bike. She suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Dreams came true for 120 Manitoba children on Wednesday as they took a one-day trip to Disneyland. They spent the day at the California theme park hosted by the Dreams Take Flight charity. The kids, who face medical,

Hurricane Milton weakened to a Category 1 storm as it moved through Florida this morning. It made landfall yesterday along the Gulf Coast just south of Tampa Bay as a Category 3. The storm spawned tornadoes, has caused
widespread flooding and power outages – and deaths have also been reported.
