The City of Brandon smashed a 127-year-old heat record on Monday when the daytime high hit 24.9 C. The previous high in the Wheat City was 22.8 C set in 1897.
Several other communities around the province also broke records. Environment Canada says along with Brandon – Carberry, Deerwood, McCreary, Melita, Pilot Mound, Shoal Lake, and Steinbach all set new records yesterday.
The largest jump from the previous record happened in Deerwood which is located about 40 kilometres northwest of Morden. It recorded a high of 25.7 C, which is 2.2 C higher than the old mark recorded in 1986.
Environment Canada says the majority of the previous heat records that were broken on Monday were set in 1986, including in McCreary, Melita, Shoal Lake, and Steinbach.
