Different milestones mark the path to the NHL draft every year, and one of those is a series of lists put out by NHL Central Scouting. Three Wheat Kings can cross that milestone off their checklist.
Forwards Roger McQueen, Carter Klippenstein, and Joby Baumuller have all appeared on the first of NHL Central Scouting’s lists. The early season list does not rank players officially but puts them into tiers labeled A, B, C, and W.
McQueen, the top-ranked prospect from the WHL for this draft, was given an A rating by Central Scouting. Despite having missed the last three games, the 6-foot-5 centre continues to lead the team with eight goals.
Klippenstein, in his second season with the Wheat Kings, was given a C rating on the list. Klippenstein has also missed the last three games but is nearing a return to the lineup. The 6-foot-3 forward brings physicality, agitation, skill, and three-zone responsibility to the Wheat Kings’ lineup.
Baumuller, also in his second season in Black and Gold, was assigned a W rating. He’s fresh off his first goal of the season, and is riding a two-game point streak, but has been around the net all season long and appears close to an offensive breakthrough with his heavy shot and nose for the net.
The next game for the Wheat Kings will be Friday night on home ice as they welcome the Saskatoon Blades for the first time this season.
