The Manitoba government is opening a trade office in Washington, D.C. next year. Premier Wab Kinew says the office is designed to strengthen Manitoba’s trade ties and protect jobs as the province works with the incoming Trump administration.

The future of Brandon’s Park Community Centre now rests with the province. The city has sent new design specs and cost estimates to the Manitoba government including details of an on-site daycare. The city and the premier have both promised around a million dollars for the project.

Police forces in Manitoba have launched this season’s holiday Checkstop program targeting impaired drivers. They’ll have an increased presence on the roads all month, and every driver stopped will be required to take a breath test for alcohol. Officers will also have drug screening equipment.

Searchers in an airboat were moving along the Assiniboine River in Brandon on Tuesday looking for signs of a man who’s been missing for 12 days. Police say 39-year-old Jeffrey Floresco was last seen on a surveillance camera November 21st in the 400 block of Rosser Avenue.

Manitoba RCMP are investigating the deaths of a 42-year-old man and 37-year-old woman in Portage la Prairie as a double murder. Police believe the couple were targeted saying the man had a criminal history, and was active in the drug trade.

The Retail Council of Canada wants the federal government to intervene and end the postal strike. They say the job action is putting businesses and their workers in jeopardy. Canada Post says it’s waiting for the union to respond to a framework it presented last weekend for reaching negotiated agreements.

Canada Post, meanwhile, has removed the deadline for its Santa Claus letter program – in the past, it was December 6th. They say once operations resume, they’ll ensure all letters make it to the North Pole and receive a reply, but they can’t guarantee delivery dates. In Brandon, you can drop-off Santa Letters at the Canada Post depot on Douglas Street.

The Wikimedia Foundation has released its annual list of the most-visited Wikipedia pages, showing what we wanted to read about this year. Topping the list was a page listing deaths which got over 44-million views. Also in the top 20 were politicians, the U-S election, Lyle and Erik Menendez, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ – and, of course – Taylor Swift.

Music charting site Billboard says she tops its staff-chosen editorial list based on her full 25 years of influence, impact, evolution and all-around excellence. Beyonce is the most Grammy-winning artist with a record 32 wins – and is expected to pick-up more trophies for her 2024 album ‘Cowboy Carter’ in January.
