Assault with a Weapon
At 12:55PM on January 15th Brandon Police Service (BPS) received a report of a male hitting another male in the face with a baseball bat in the 100 block of 7th Street. The 43-year-old male was located and arrested in the 800 block of Rosser Avenue. The victim, a 67-year-old male, was transported to hospital via ambulance and required stitches. The victim did not know the accused nor was there any conflict that led to the assault. The accused had injuries of his own from an unknown source. He would not cooperate with police. He was taken to hospital where he received treatment. He will be held in custody for court.
Stolen Vehicle – Recovered In 12 Hours
On January 15th at 4:16PM a van was reported stolen from the 500 block of Percy Street. The keys were accounted for. No surveillance available. Due to owning several vehicles the owner did not know off hand which license plate belonged to said stolen vehicle at the time of the call.
*The vehicle was recovered in the 500 block of Rosser Avenue East by patrolling BPS members at 3:39AM on January 16th. The vehicle was towed for further investigation.
Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP Warrant Executed
On January 15th BPS attended Brandon Correctional Centre (BCC) to execute a Warrant of Arrest and obtain fingerprints on a 26-year-old male inmate. Charges include Pointing a Firearm, Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Unauthorized Use of a Firearm. The male will remain in custody and attend court in the morning.
Motor Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian
On January 15th at 7:40AM police responded to an accident at 10th Street and Brandon Avenue. The pedestrian was crossing 10th Street East bound and the motorist, a taxicab, was traveling north bound. The pedestrian was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital Centre (BRHC) via ambulance and remains there for observation due to a brain bleed. The situation remains under investigation.
Breach of Peace
On January 15th at 8:57PM security from a hotel in the 1100 block of 18th Street reported an aggressive and intoxicated male. Police attended and removed the male. He was held in detention cells at BPS and will be released once sober.
LGCA – Consume Liquor by Minor
On January 15th at 9:14PM police were informed a 15-year-old female youth had apparently been missing for 24 hours but was located in Westaway Bay by the caller. She was said to be intoxicated. The female had run from the caller and police were able to locate her near Pacific Ave and Alaska Bay. The female was held in detention cells and will be released once sober to a guardian.
RCMP Warrant Executed / Pending Charges
On January 15th at 9:53PM reports of a vehicle in the ditch on Victoria Avenue East came into BPS. The caller reported that the female driver appeared intoxicated as she was slurring her words and was swerving on the road prior to hitting the ditch. Upon police arrival the vehicle was stuck in the ditch with the 20-year-old female driver attempting to push it out. Files revealed an RCMP endorsed Warrant for Operation While Impaired by Drug for this female operator of the vehicle. The female’s license was seized on behalf of the RCMP. No alcohol was found to be in the driver’s system however standard field sobriety test resulted in a failure. Drug Recognition Expert was deployed from BPS with a blood sample later taken at BRHC. She was released via an Appearance Notice with a Virden court date of March 7th, 2025.
