All Peavy Mart stores across the country, including the Brandon outlet, are being closed. The company initially announced stores would be shutdown in Ontario and Nova Scotia, but that’s since been expanded. They cite several factors including record-low consumer confidence, increased operating costs and continued disruptions to the supply chain. The company also has stores in Winnipeg, Winkler and Steinbach.

Manitoba conservation officers, including those stationed out of Virden and Boissevain, are patrolling the Canada-U-S border as part efforts to ramp up security. They’ll be using snowmobiles, all terrain vehicles and helicopters to focus on secondary roads and back-country areas. U-S president Donald Trump has threatened tariffs to back his demands for increased border security.

Manitoba RCMP are warning about an ongoing phishing scam involving people impersonating the Mounties. They say text messages are telling people the RCMP are unable to deliver court documents – and you just need to
click a link to reschedule to avoid missing a court date. Police say simply delete the message.

We could be experiencing a ‘quademic’ right now – the simultaneous spread of four viruses: influenza, RSV, COVID and norovirus. Health officials say our low COVID levels are still as high as many of the other viruses which are nearing their peak. The flu and norovirus cases are still rising – but RSV appears to have peaked.

Docking a dog’s tail will not longer be permitted in Manitoba. Members of the Veterinary Medical Association voted last week to end the practice. They say the procedure is primarily done for cosmetic purposes – and is not necessary. Manitoba’s Animal Care Act now needs amendments to prevent breeders from docking dogs tails.
