A 21-year-old man from Dauphin faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking after an arrest by Dauphin RCMP on Sunday afternoon.
Police said in their release that, at about 3:15 in the afternoon on April 6, their officers were on patrol on Main Street in Dauphin when they spotted a 21-year-old man walking who was on an unendorsed warrant. According to police, when they attempted an arrest the man fled on foot.
Police allege that while they chased down the suspect he reached into a satchel, pulled out a handgun, and threw it away from himself onto the roof of a nearby building. After catching up to the suspect and arresting him, police then went back to the roof of the building and found the handgun, which was loaded. They also said they seized crack/cocaine, pills, and Canadian currency from the suspect.
The 21-year-old man from Dauphin now faces charges of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Resist Arrest, and other weapons offenses.
Dauphin RCMP continue to investigate.
