-Kyle Connor scored his second straight game-winner in the third period as the Winnipeg Jets beat the St. Louis Blues 2-1 last night to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round NHL playoff series. Game 3 is Thursday in St. Louis.
-In other action – the Capitals edged the Canadiens 3-2 in overtime, the Kings got by the Oilers 6-5 – and the Stars beat the Avalanche 4-3 in overtime. Washington and L-A lead their series 1-0 – while Dallas and Colorado are
tied at one.
-Tonight in the NHL – Ottawa is in Toronto; the Leafs lead 1-0. New Jersey visits Carolina; the Hurricanes are up 1-0. Tampa Bay is home to Florida for Game 1 – and Minnesota is in Vegas; the Golden Knights lead 1-0.
-The NHL has announced that last Thursday’s 7-game finale pushed total attendance for the full, 1,312-game regular season to 23,014,458, surpassing the 23-million mark for the first time and eclipsing the previous high of 22,873,142 set last season. The record figure represents 96.9% of capacity. It’s the third straight regular season that the NHL has set a total attendance record. The Montreal Canadiens led all clubs in total attendance, with sellout crowds of 21,105 filling Bell Centre for each of their 41 home dates for a total of 865,305.
