The City of Brandon is advising property owners that the Manitoba Government has extended the deadline to register your primary residence for the Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit (HATC) to Sat, Nov. 15, 2025.
This tax credit replaces the former Education Property Tax Credit (EPTC) and offers up to $1,500, or the total education taxes on your property – whichever is less.
Most eligible homeowners have had the HATC automatically applied if they had been enrolled with the EPTC. Check if your property is enrolled by using the City of Brandon’s Taxes & Assessment Map at COB Tax & Assessment The HATC credit amount can be found under TAX INFO, listed as the “Education Tax Credit”.
If you received your 2025 property tax bill and did not receive the credit, you can still apply if you meet the following eligibility requirements:
• You are the registered property owner
• The property is assessed as a single dwelling residential unit
• The property is your principal residence
• Neither you nor your spouse are receiving this credit on any other property in Manitoba
If your property tax bill doesn’t show the credit, apply online at Property and/or Water Account Change Form or in person at City Hall (410 – 9th St.) during regular business hours Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Reminder: property taxes are due on or before Mon, June 30, 2025.
Once the application has been successfully completed and if taxes have been fully paid, a refund will be issued. Otherwise, the credit will be applied to your account. Those on the Tax Installment Plan will see adjusted monthly payments from July to December. Those who do not enroll in the HATC prior to Nov. 15, 2025 can claim their credit on their 2025 income tax return.
