If your weekend plans include highway travel, the provincial government is asking you to take a little extra care this coming weekend.
In a release this afternoon, the province said crews of young people will be on the shoulder and close to provincial highways for the provincewide road cleanup campaign led by 4-H members. Cleanup begins June 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.
“The 4-H Manitoba Highway Cleanup event, typically held in May or June, is an annual program where 4-H clubs clean up highways and roadsides across the province,” reads the release. “This community service project allows 4-H members to improve the environment and provide a community service. In the past, clubs have cleaned hundreds of kilometres of highways and roadsides.”
Crews will wear safety vests and areas being cleaned will be marked with safety signs. If the weather should force the cleanup to another day, the make-up date will be Saturday, June 14.
