The provincial government has announced their all-party committee on local journalism, chaired by Robert Loiselle, MLA for St. Boniface, will begin touring Manitoba starting on June 26 in Gimli, and they’ll be making a stop in Brandon as well.
The stop in Brandon will take place on July 7government house leader Nahanni Fontaine announced today. There will also be meetings in Winnipeg and Winkler, and a virtual meeting for northern communities.
“A healthy democracy relies on strong local journalism,” said Loiselle. “We’re inviting media outlets, stakeholders and the public to attend and share how we can support journalism in your community.”
Consultations aim to focus on rural and northern media and cultural media such as French, Filipino, Punjabi and Chinese language publications with the mandate to explore the future of local journalism, noted Loiselle.
The all-party committee is made up of four government MLAs and two opposition MLAs. Media outlets and interested members of the public are invited to register to present at a meeting in their region
