Starting Wednesday, July 2nd (weather permitting) and continuing into the fall, road reconstruction will begin on 26th Street from Park Avenue to Victoria Avenue.
The construction will be done in two phases.
–Phase one will include work being undertaken in front of J.R. Reid School, to be completed for the start of the school year.
Due to significant root heaving, City owned trees will be removed on both sides of 26th Street between Park Avenue and Victoria Avenue. Strategic tree replacement will occur in 2026. Underground utility replacements will also be completed during the first phase.
–Phase two will be focused on completion of the rest of reconstruction work. We anticipate the majority of the road construction to be completed to a state where it can be re-opened come winter. The top lift of asphalt will be paved in the spring of 2026 when seasonal conditions are favorable.
The 700 and 800 blocks of 26th Street will be fully closed during the school summer break to expedite completion in the vicinity of the school. Traffic detours will be in place during this time.
The 500 and 600 blocks of 26th Street will see traffic diverted during construction to one lane in either direction utilizing either the southbound or northbound lanes while work commences on the opposite side.
