For the fourth time in the last six seasons, the Brandon Wheat Kings had multiple players chosen in the NHL entry draft. And both the first and second days of the draft featured Wheat Kings’ content.
Carter Klippenstein and Brady Turko joined Roger McQueen, the tenth overall pick on day one, on the second day of the NHL draft as the Wheat Kings’ drafted players.
Klippenstein, an 18-year-old forward from Lethbridge, was selected in the fourth round, 123rd overall, by the Minnesota Wild. Klippenstein posted 14 goals and 14 assists in 58 games last season for the Wheat Kings.
Points, however, are only one part of Klippenstein’s appeal. The hard-nosed forward stands 6-foot-3 and tested well at the NHL combine, with seven-top ten finishes and a first-place score in right side agility.
In the seventh round, 200th overall, Turko joined McQueen with the Anaheim Ducks. Turko posted eight goals and 26 points in 68 games this past season, his first in the WHL. He was one of the youngest players in this draft.
NHL teams will begin releasing their development camp rosters later this week, and those rosters may include players who went undrafted.
