is being held to replace Grant Jackson, who resigned in March to run federally. Advance voting begins Saturday.

Rain helped slow fire activity near two northern communities. Officials say the Thompson area got about 7 mm and Snow Lake received two on Monday morning. That wasn’t enough to put the fires out, but it helped keep activity relatively low. Thunderstorms were forecast for the region Monday night.

The body of a 27-year-old man, reported missing last week in Keeseekoowenin First Nation, has been recovered. RCMP say he was found in the community’s lagoon, and foul play is not suspected. Security on the First Nation had tried to pull-over a vehicle on August 6th driven by the man, but it didn’t stop and was found later abandoned near the lagoon.

Air Canada flight attendants could announce an intent to strike after midnight tonight which means a full-fledged walkout could begin Saturday. Flights are continuing to operate as scheduled but if there are disruptions, the airline will notify customers in advance of their travel.

Some WestJetters personal data, including travel documents such as passports, was accessed in a cyberattack, but the airline says credit and debit card numbers as well as user passwords were not compromised. WestJet identified the suspicious activity on its systems on June 13th.

The Mounties have introduced a drone corridor in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta along the provinces’ U.S. border. They’ll watch for illegal activity including smuggling and drug trafficking – all part of Ottawa’s promise to increase security to avoid Trump Tariffs.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plan to boost housing construction in Canada promises to prioritize affordable housing and the use of Canadian materials. Build Canada Homes also pledges to speed up converting federal lands to housing.

A new survey has found many of us are open to the idea of serving the country in some way, even if it’s mandatory. The idea is those 30 years old and younger would donate a year to civil protection, public health and environmental support, and youth services. Mandatory military service was low on the list.
