After 9 hours of talks with a federally appointed mediator, a tentative agreement has been reached to end the contract dispute between Air Canada and its flight attendants. The union says a big sticking point, that of unpaid work while planes are on the ground, has been resolved. The airline says flights will gradually return beginning this evening.

Environmental scientists say by building dams across rivers, beavers create ponds of cool water throughout forested areas, and that stored water keeps plants hydrated making them harder to burn.

Partial skeletal remains were discovered near the shoreline of a lake in northern Manitoba last weekend. RCMP believe the remains, found at Tataskweyak Cree Nation, are historical and an anthropologist has been brought in to help investigate.

The Conservative candidate in Manitoba’s Spruce Woods byelection is doing some apologizing for past comments. Colleen Robbins has apologized for saying she hated unions, also for comments she made about residential schools, and about replying “sold” when a U.S. senator mused about buying Canada. Robbins is running against Ray Berthelette of the NDP and Liberal Stephen Reid. A candidates debate will be held Wednesday at Sprucewoods Community Hall.
