Kirkcaldy Heights School in Brandon was briefly locked down just after noon on Wednesday as police dealt with an incident nearby. Two males got into a fight and an 18-year-old man was arrested. Police say the suspect allegedly had an edged weapon, which caused minor injuries to the other male, but it wasn’t located.

Earlier this week, Brandon police arrested a 23-year-old man and seized a half-a-kilo of cocaine as part of a drug investigation. $10,000 in cash was also seized. The suspect was charged with trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

A number of trees in downtown Brandon will be removed. The city says 71 ash trees have limited space to grow, and have been significantly damaged by drought, road salt and jumping tree lice. The city will start taking them down next week, and will plant a variety of new trees next spring.
