Dauphin Kings’ captain and Brandon product Mitch Van Teeling made a stop on this week’s edition of Monday Sports Talk.
Van Teeling and his Kings are this year’s host for the Western Canada Cup, where two teams will advance to the RBC Cup National Junior ‘A’ Hockey Championship.
The tournament runs from April 26th to May 4th.
"We kind of got a system here going where we break the season into little segments. We’re trying to win each game itself, not worrying about the big picture, just take it night-in and night-out. Get the points in our segments to get to where we want to be," Van Teeling told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston and Lanny Stewart.
Van Teeling has 18 goals and 36 points in 39 games with Dauphin who are winners of six in a row and lead the MJHL’s Sher-Wood Division with an overall record of 27-14-1.
"Just trying to be a good role model for some of the younger guys, its different being a captain," added Van Teeling. "I just like to play hard and get around the ice pretty good. Get some power-play time and some PK time, log a lot of minutes. Just try to do really anything that’s possible for the team."
Van Teeling is joined on the roster by fellow Westman products in Brayden Cuthbert, Tristan Mullin, Hudson Morrison, Jesse Bernard, Aubrey Chapman, Tanner Butler, Cameron Whyte and Jordan Thomson.
