CUPE 998, the union representing Manitoba Hydro’s technical and clerical workers has successfully ratified a new collective agreement. The three-year agreement provides wage increases of 9.5 percent, along with additional increases for the lowest-paid and long-service employees, bringing the total value of the agreement to 12 percent over its term.
Michelle Bergen, President of CUPE 998 said in a media release today, “I am happy to have a new Collective Agreement that our membership voted in favour of,” said Michelle Bergen, President of CUPE 998. “It was really important to us that members be treated equally and not divided.”
The agreement was strongly supported by members with 82 percent voting in favour and an 80 percent turnout rate.
“I want to congratulate the members at CUPE 998 on getting a good deal that reflects fairness for all members,” said Gina McKay, President of CUPE Manitoba. “We know when we stick together, we can get agreements that bring us all forward together.”
The new CUPE 998 Collective Agreement is in effect until December 31, 2027.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canada’s largest union representing more than 750,000 members. In Manitoba, CUPE represents approximately 38,000 members working in health care facilities, personal care homes, home care, school divisions, municipal services, social services, child care centres, public utilities, libraries, and family emergency services.
