A complaint involving a former Portage RCMP officer has led to charges, according to a release from Manitoba RCMP.
In their release, RCMP said the charges stem from a complaint dating back to November 27 of 2024. The complaint alleged that an RCMP officer took about $300 out of his car during a traffic stop on November 19.
Manitoba RCMP West District handled the investigation. According to police, they interviewed several witnesses, including other RCMP officers and the complainant.
In January of this year, the officer involved in the complaint, Ben Harder, resigned while the investigation was still going on.
All evidence was provided to Crown Counsel, and on October 2, 2025, Ben Harder was served with a summons by Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police. He is being charged with breach of trust and theft under $5000.
Harder will appear in Portage la Prairie Court on October 21. He is presumed innocent.
Police added the Independent Investigation Unit took on a monitoring role during this investigation and reviewed the full investigation upon its completion.
