-Four Canadian teams were in action in the NHL last night – the Maple Leafs lost 5-2 to the Devils, the Penguins beat the Canucks 5-1, and the Oilers got by the Senators 3-2 in overtime. The Winnipeg Jets return to action on Thursday when they welcome the Seattle Kraken. Winnipeg is riding a 5-game win streak.
-The Brandon Wheat Kings have a few more days off. They’ll host the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday – and the Moose Jaw Warriors Sunday afternoon.
-The Brandon University Bobcats women’s rugby team is hosting the championship round of the Prairie University Women’s Rugby Conference at John Reilly Field on Hilton Avenue. On Friday at noon – Saskatchewan plays SAIT – and at 2:00 pm, Brandon takes on Mount Royal. The medal games go Sunday; Bronze at 10:30 am – Gold medal game at 1:00 pm.
-The BU Bobcats are also hosting the MCAC Final 4 in both men’s and women’s soccer. Noon and 2:15 pm Saturday at Healthy Living Centre and Cougar fields. The women’s final goes Sunday at noon – the men’s at 2:15 at HLC. And the Bobcats basketball season opens Friday night with game against the University of Manitoba Bisons. The women’s game goes at 6:00 pm – the men’s at 8:00 pm.
-At the Pan Continental Curling Championship, a qualifying tournament for the World’s in 2026, Canada’s Brad Jacobs opened with two straight wins – while defending champion Rachel Homan is 1-and-1.
