-StatsCan has released its latest homicide report… and Manitoba’s numbers were not good. Our province saw a 22-per cent increase in murders last year. Manitoba recorded 94 homicides last year, compared to 75 the year before. No response from Premier Wab Kinew yet.

-The Manitoba Government says the Universal School Nutrition Program has hit some major milestones. Over 93 thousand students across the province have been fed daily, totaling more than 30 million in the last year, the announcement was made yesterday.

-Opposition PCs are pitching mandatory seatbelt use on new Manitoba school buses. This 2nd private member’s bill would hike fines for illegally passing stopped buses. Education critic Wayne Ewasko brought forward two private member’s bills Wednesday. Fines for motorists who pass stopped school buses jump from $670 to up to $2,500 for a first offence; the 2nd bill would make seatbelts mandatory on all new school buses in the province. No Canadian provinces have enacted similar legislation.

-A knife-wielding woman who was shot four times by an RCMP officer near Carberry last may has been found not criminally responsible for assault and weapons charges. The judge ruled that Jacqueline Armes not criminally responsible for her charges due to psychiatric issues.

-The Keystone Centre and Keystone Centre Foundation are hosting a free Family Fun Day later this month. The Dec. 20 event will take place at the north end of the Keystone Centre from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include music, food, activities and holiday-themed fun.
