The Manitoba government is launching a provincewide hiring forum aimed at helping more nurses and health‑care aides enter the workforce by connecting them directly with employers from across the province.
Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara says the goal is to remove barriers that keep qualified professionals from getting to work. “This is about making it easier for nurses and health‑care aides who are ready to work to connect directly with employers who need them,” Asagwara said, adding that many trained nurses in Manitoba want to return to practice but face challenges navigating the system.
The Make it in Manitoba: Nurse and Health‑Care Aide Hiring Forum will take place April 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg. The one‑day event will bring together employers from across Manitoba, including rural and northern regions, to support recruitment efforts and match candidates with available positions.
Attendees will be able to meet with hiring managers, take part in on‑site interviews for current openings, and learn more about roles in high‑need clinical areas. Nurses can also explore programs designed to help them transition back into practice or advance their careers, including the Nurse Re‑Entry Program at Red River College Polytech.
The province says the forum is part of a broader effort to strengthen Manitoba’s health‑care workforce by creating clearer pathways into the system and supporting workers at different stages of their careers. That includes nurses licensed through labour mobility who may need additional clinical experience before entering practice. Programs like NREP offer supervised training to help them return safely and confidently.
Employers from Manitoba’s service delivery organizations will be on site, with a focus on matching candidates to high‑need areas and supporting long‑term retention through structured onboarding and mentorship.
