The RCMP is once again calling on young Canadians to help name the newest additions to its world‑famous Musical Ride — and this year, every name has to start with the letter C.
The annual “Name the Foal” contest invites children aged 14 and under to submit original name ideas for up to a dozen newborn horses born at the RCMP’s breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario. The winning names will be given to the foals that will eventually grow into full‑sized Musical Ride horses, performing in parades, demonstrations, and special events across the country.
To enter, kids simply need to send in a name that begins with C, along with a short explanation of why they chose it. The RCMP says creativity counts — past winners have included everything from classic names to clever nods to Canadian history, nature, and pop culture.
Winners will receive an official RCMP prize pack, a certificate, and a photo of the foal they helped name. Their chosen name will also follow the horse throughout its entire career, making the contest a small but meaningful way for young Canadians to leave their mark on a national tradition.
The contest runs until April 30, and entries can be submitted online through the RCMP website.
For families looking for a fun spring activity — or kids who’ve always wanted to name a horse — this is an easy way to get involved in a uniquely Canadian tradition.
