Luke Mistelbacher said all along the objective was for him to go pro once the 2025-26 season ended and his time with the Brandon Wheat Kings was done. Consider that objective reached.
Mistelbacher, a 20-year-old forward from Steinbach, signed an AHL contract with the Belleville Senators, affiliate of the Ottawa Senators for 2026-27. In addition to his AHL contract next season, he will join the team on an amateur tryout agreement for the remainder of 2025-26.
After being acquired in the offseason from the Swift Current Broncos, Mistelbacher brought an incredible offensive punch to the Wheat Kings. He finished the 2025-26 season as the team’s leading goal scorer with 42 and their leader in points with 88. He finished his WHL career with 110 goals and 250 points over four seasons, despite not being drafted in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.
Mistelbacher made his pro debut last offseason with the AHL’s Iowa Wild, affiliate of the Minnesota Wild of the NHL. In two games with Iowa, he scored his first AHL goal.
The veteran forward is one of three graduating Wheat Kings along with defenseman Grayson Burzynski and forward Nicholas Johnson.
