A suspect is in custody and secure-and-hold measures at local schools have been lifted following an alleged weapons threat at Neelin High School.
According to the Brandon Police Service, they were called to a weapons threat at the school at about 12:51 PM yesterday. As a precaution, they placed Neelin and several other schools in a secure-and-hold state, but they found out a suspect had left the school grounds immediately after making the threat.
Police said that after taking statements from students and staff, they found a suspect several blocks away at about 1:19 PM. They found him in a residence and arrested him without incident.
“The secure-and-hold measures were lifted once it was determined there was no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the public,” said the BPS in a post on their social media. “At this time there is no ongoing risk to the community.”
Brandon Police will continue to investigate.
