The offseason is barely two weeks old, but the Brandon Wheat Kings are already making moves to help the team both next season and beyond.
The team announced today they had signed forward Colin Grubb to a standard WHL player and development agreement. The 2009-born forward was the team’s first pick, 14th overall, in the 2024 U.S. Priority Selection.
“We are ecstatic to have Colin signed,” said Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray. “He has been a high priority for us since the day we drafted him, and we are thrilled he will be joining the Wheat Kings’ organization.”
A native of Minot, just under three hours south of Brandon, Grubb caught the Wheat Kings’ eyes while playing at the famed Shattuck St. Mary’s prep program during his draft season. He’s stayed with Shattuck through the two seasons following his draft year, rapidly progressing through the 16U and 18U ranks.
“Colin has excellent hockey IQ, plays a very strong 200-foot game, and is a high character young man,” Murray said. “He will be a great fit for the Brandon Wheat Kings.”
Last season, Grubb posted 40 points in 51 games in the U.S. prep ranks against players two years older than him, making him one of the highest-scoring U17 players in the country.
