The NHL playoffs roll on, and some series are beginning to tilt in favor of one side already. The Philadelphia Flyers took a 2-0 series lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 3-0 win game two last night, while the Carolina Hurricanes broke the Ottawa Senators’ hearts in double overtime to take a 2-0 lead in their series. The Dallas Stars bounced back from a rough game one to even their series with the Minnesota Wild thanks to a 4-2 win, and the Edmonton Oilers opened up a 1-0 lead in their series with Anaheim with a late third-period goal to win 4-3.
The Virden Oil Capitals will try to bounce back in their series with the Niverville Nighthawks tonight. Virden trails the series 2-0. Both they and the Nighthawks are looking for their first ever MJHL championship.
The Toronto Blue Jays won their second straight game and first of a new series last night when they beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-2. Both teams will need short memories as they go right back at one another tonight at 8:38.
In Peterborough, the TELUS Cup is underway and the Regina Pat Canadians Brandon Wheat Kings’ prospects Ethan Young and Logan Dosenberger won their opening game over the host Peterborough Petes 7-3. Young scored the first goal of the tournament for the Pat Cs and finished with three points. He and the Pat Cs are looking for their second straight national title.
