Brandon’s next general municipal election is set for Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and the first key date in the campaign calendar arrives this week. The campaign registration period for mayoral candidates opens May 1, officially kicking off the election cycle for residents considering a run for office.
This fall, Brandon voters will elect a mayor, city councillors, and Brandon School Division trustees. General municipal elections in Manitoba take place every four years on the fourth Wednesday in October.
To help residents and potential candidates prepare, the City of Brandon has launched an updated online resource at brandon.ca/votes. The site includes information on candidate eligibility, registration requirements, key dates, and upcoming details on advance voting and polling locations.
Candidate Requirements
Anyone intending to run for mayor, council, or school trustee must register with the Senior Election Official (SEO) before accepting contributions, incurring expenses, or fundraising. Registration for councillor and trustee candidates opens June 30, 2026.
To qualify for municipal office, individuals must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old on Election Day, Manitoba residents, and eligible voters. Eligible voters including those who have lived in or owned property in the municipality for at least six months prior to April 28, 2026. Certain individuals — including judges and members of provincial or federal legislatures — are disqualified under The Municipal Act.
Voter Information
Residents are encouraged to ensure their information is up to date on the Voters List, especially those who have recently moved or rent their home. Updates can be made by calling 204‑729‑2462 or emailing brandonvotes@brandon.ca. Revisions will be accepted until September 22, 2026.
