The Pittsburgh Penguins luck finally ran out as the Philadelphia Flyers beat them in overtime to win both game six and the series. Elkhorn’s Travis Sanheim and former Brandon Wheat King Carson Bjarnason (recalled by the Flyers for the playoffs) will move on to the second round to face the Carolina Hurricanes. Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights took a double-overtime win over the Utah Mammoth for a 3-2 lead in their series, and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in their own building to go up 3-2 in their series. Tonight, the Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks have a chance to move on to round two as each plays game six against the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers respectively.
After a league championship, the SMAAAHL’s defenseman of the year award, a bronze medal at the TELUS Cup, and numerous statistical records, Wheat Kings prospect Ethan Young is at last ready for the offseason. The Regina-born defenseman says he’ll spend it getting stronger and trying to add weight to his frame in order to make the Wheat Kings this fall.
The Toronto Blue Jays won their series with the Boston Red Sox with authority yesterday afternoon, winning the deciding third game by an 8-1 count. There’s no rest for the Jays, however, as they’re right back to work today against the Minnesota Twins.
It’s now do-or-die time for the Toronto Raptors as they fell 125-120 to the Cleveland Cavaliers last night and trail 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. Game six will be in Toronto tomorrow at 6:30 Central Time.
