The first round of the WHL’s Prospects Draft begins tonight at 7:00 Central Time. The Brandon Wheat Kings hold the 15th overall pick for the first time since 2018, when they selected Jake Chiasson (who went on to play 141 games with the team over parts of five seasons, amassing 81 points). Check on Wheat Kings’ director of hockey operations Chris Moulton’s thoughts on the draft here.
The Colorado Avalanche won a much offensively quieter game against the Minnesota Wild last night, beating them 5-2 for a 2-0 series lead. Nicholas Roy scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the second period.
Tonight, the Montreal Canadiens get back to work after their seven-game series victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. They kick off their series with the Buffalo Sabres, while the Vegas Golden Knights look for a 2-0 series lead over the Anaheim Ducks.
The Winnipeg Jets came very close (almost a photo finish) to winning last night’s NHL draft lottery, but it was the Toronto Maple Leafs winning instead. The Leafs will pick first for the first time since 2016, when they selected Austin Matthews. San Jose won the second lottery and holds the second overall pick.
Despite a much tighter game two, the Toronto Blue Jays still dropped their second game of the three-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays last night 4-3. The series finale is today at 12:10.
