A major entrance to the Keystone Centre grounds remains closed following an underground pipe burst that occurred last week.
Keystone Centre CEO and General Manager Connie Lawrence confirmed the closure at the 18th Street and Queens Avenue entrance is not related to any City resurfacing or road work. Although the grounds are often used by motorists as a cut-through, the Keystone Centre is private property and does not require City approval to restrict access. Repairs within the grounds are also not the City’s responsibility.
Crews are currently working to repair the damaged pipe, and Lawrence said the organization is hopeful the work will be completed by this weekend. Access to the Keystone Centre remains open via 13th Street in the meantime.
While reducing cut‑through traffic would be ideal, Lawrence noted it is difficult to enforce restrictions due to the high number of events hosted at the facility, making it challenging to determine which vehicles are attending events and which are simply passing through.
The Keystone Centre expects the entrance to reopen well ahead of the upcoming Summer Fair, with no impact anticipated on scheduled events.
