Original Animated “The Transformers: The Movie” To Return To The Big Screen For 40th Anniversary
With the success of the live-action “Transformer” movie franchise, it’s easy to forget that there was a Transformer film released nearly 40 years ago. 1986’s animated “The Transformers: The Movie” was not a box office hit, taking in less than $6-million. It wasn’t due to a weak cast; the movie featured performances from Orson Welles, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle and Robert Stack. Part of the problem was, word got out the film killed off the TV show’s beloved protagonist, Optimus Prime, which made movie-goers extremely unhappy. Good news, though! Those 80s kids can relive the trauma, as the film is set to return to theaters for its 40th anniversary. Beginning September 17, “The Transformers: The Movie” will roll out in theaters (in a remastered 4K format) with a wide theatrical release through September 21.
