A rise in water rates in Brandon that the city says will cost most households about $5 per month is on the table and due for consideration at the next regular meeting of Brandon City Council.
In a release, the city said they were proposing a water and waste water rate hike. The new rate would come into effect on January 1 of 2027.
The proposed rates are intended to balance affordability with the costs of providing safe, reliable drinking water and wastewater services while maintaining infrastructure in a financially sustainable manner,” reads the release.
According to the release, the resulting rise in costs would amount to about $5.19 for a typical residential household of four.
The proposed rates and supporting rate study report will be presented to City Council at the next regular meeting on Monday, June 15. If Council gives first reading of By-Law No. 7450, the rates will be submitted to the Manitoba Public Utilities Board (PUB) for review and approval.
They added that Residents will have additional opportunities to provide public input as part of the PUB review process.
