Mark Martinook says watching son Jordan win the Stanley Cup left him in tears
Mark Martinook says he’ll never forget the moment he watched his son, Jordan Martinook, hoist the Stanley Cup for the first time — a moment he describes as nothing short of overwhelming.
“Oh, man. ‘Unbelievable is all I can say,’” Mark told Pattison Media early Monday while waiting for his flight home from Las Vegas. “I never dreamt in a million years that I would see my kid hang on to the Stanley Cup. And they did it last night. It was so unreal. I sat in my seat for 15 minutes after the game and just cried.”
The celebrations, he said, were exactly what you’d expect from a team capturing hockey’s biggest prize. “The festivities started last night after the game… I left about 5:30 this morning and the boys were still going hard. It was quite the party.”
Mark also proudly noted that he called the win before puck drop. “I did an interview with WRAL (North Carolina TV station) after game 5 and told them we were winning the Cup. The series wasn’t going back to Raleigh. It’s over. My prediction came out right — and that’s all that matters. And we have it, and life is good.”
He also shared the story behind his extended stay in Las Vegas — a 10‑day stretch he joked was “eight days too long.” “I came down for Game 3 and never left… I just stayed here for Game 6. Hung out by the pool. I got a very nice tan — 40 degrees every day, you can’t help but tan.” Mark can now enjoy his tan blended with the afterglow of knowing his son is now a Stanley Cup champion.
Jordan, born in Brandon and drafted 58th overall by Phoenix in 2012, now celebrates his first Stanley Cup — with a father who says the moment was “unreal” and impossible to put into words.
