Brandon City Council has approved a key step toward building a new roundabout in the city’s fast-growing southwest corner, aimed at improving traffic flow and supporting continued development in the area.
The project will be located at the intersection of 34th Street and Manitou Drive, creating a direct connection between the Brookwood and Bellafield neighbourhoods. City officials say the roundabout is being designed to handle increasing traffic volumes as both communities continue to expand, while also improving safety for drivers and pedestrians.
To move the project forward, Council approved a bylaw to open up portions of public road needed for construction. The plan also includes extending roadways and adding new sidewalks eastward into the Bellafield development, helping to better integrate the surrounding neighbourhoods and future infrastructure.
The roundabout is part of a broader strategy to support growth in southwest Brandon, where new residential developments—including a planned school in Brookwood South—are driving demand for improved transportation links. City administration has also secured agreements with affected landowners to acquire the necessary property for the road expansion.
In addition, a related rezoning bylaw remains in its early stages, proposing to convert nearby land for residential use and open space. That move would further support the buildout of Bellafield and strengthen connections into the new roundabout.
Overall, the project reflects Brandon’s long-term planning efforts to balance growth, safety, and infrastructure investment as the city continues to expand.
