A heat warning that first came into effect for Brandon and area last week continues today, and Environment Canada says it is not likely to abate tomorrow either.
According to Environment Canada’s website, Brandon remains under a yellow warning for heat, with a daytime high above 30 degrees and humidex values above 38. Because nighttime lows are still expected to be in the high teens, the heat warning is expected to last through the next few days.
“Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day,” reads the warning on their website. “Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water.”
They also recommend drinking water often and before you feel thirsty to replace fluids, closing blinds or shades, and opening windows if outside is cooler than inside. If your living space is hot, they advise moving to a cool public space such as a cooling centre, community centre, library or shaded park.
As of now, Thursday is expected to be the next day in which the forecasted daytime high for Brandon is below 30 degrees Celsius.
