Rachel Homan kept her undefeated record alive with a 5-4 win over Manitoba’s Chelsea Carey in the 1-2 Page Playoff game Friday night at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Homan earns a bye into Sunday’s final with the victory, while Carey will play in Saturday’s semifinal.
Homan jumped out to a 3-0 lead by scoring three in the second end on a daring double takeout.
"We knew we could make it, we’ve seen the lines all week," said Homan, "I knew how to throw it, you have to throw it aggressive because it was so thin. It was all or nothing so we went for it, and it paid off."
Carey battled back to tied the contest 4-4 heading into the ninth end, but failed to get anything going in those final two ends.
"You don’t want them to blank nine, but you can’t give them a deuce so you’re a little careful," said Carey, "And then, in ten, Lisa (Team Canada lead Weagle) makes two perfect ticks and you know she’s probably going make those, but you have to pray she misses one but she didn’t, and then the game’s over."
Homan remains undefeated as she tries to become the first time since Linda Moore in 1985 to go through the Scotties without a loss.
Carey, meanwhile, will meet either Saskatchewan’s Stefanie Lawton or Alberta’s Val Sweeting in the semifinal (3:00 p.m.).
Those two teams play Saturday morning in the 3-4 Page Playoff game.
